Team WPA Spent the Day Volunteering in the “Working Wardrobe”

This year the WPA team volunteered with the Moxie People, who are a people-focussed recruitment agency. Moxie endeavour not only to recruitment people in to new jobs, working closely both with employees and employers, but also believes passionately in supporting and motivating people through this journey. In addition to the Moxie Foundation, they’ve set up and run a charitable initiative called the “Working Wardrobe”. This is run in partnership with Newydd Housing, CCHA, Monmouthshire Housing Association and Toward and gives people the confidence and self-belief to take that all-important first step towards a new career. The Working Wardrobe project donates interview clothing to people looking for work and beginning employment, in our communities across South Wales.

The Moxie People, are passionate about this initiative, reporting that whilst “228,000 people are employed in sectors affected by Covid-19 in Wales, 700,000 people are living financially precarious lives in Wales, whilst 19.5% of 16-24 year-olds in Wales are currently unemployed.” This means that the Working Wardrobe will be imperative in helping those needing to seek employment who wouldn’t otherwise have the funds or confidence to buy a suitable outfit for interview and employment.

On Tuesday, 17th September 2024 the WPA team took part in their volunteer day, spending time in a warehouse sorting through thousands of garments and workwear for the Working Wardrobe initiative.

The team all worked diligently to organise the items by category and size. Together, the WPA team collaborated with Working Wardrobe’s Project Manager, Rachel Rodrigues to streamline the sorting process, ensuring everything was neatly arranged for distribution. The camaraderie was evident as they tackled the massive piles, sharing laughs and encouragement while making a meaningful contribution to the community. By the end of the day, they had successfully sorted and categorized the entire collection of men’s trousers, leaving the warehouse ready for its next phase.
