It’s Earth Day 2022!
The statistics are bleak, we need to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by mid-century to keep the global temperature below 1.5°C to avoid the worst consequences of the biological and ecological crises.
All too often the reality of this is overwhelming, and many of us have no idea where to begin or what to do. Earth Day 2022 gives us the perfect call to action – invest in our planet. As the charity succinctly puts it
‘We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.’
WPA are committed to making more climate conscious decisions in our actions, business, and products.
Alongside our national organisation we are working towards understanding our own carbon footprint, to reduce what we can and mitigate what we can’t yet eliminate.
As a procurement organisation we have an integral role to play in ensuring our procurement solutions are fit for purpose and meet the needs of our public sector clients. These needs will need to include their own and central government targets towards reaching net zero.
Going forward there is no right answer, the best thing we can all do is make the investments in our planet, with our people, our technology, and our buildings. Our individual contributions will have a greater impact when we share our successes and failures. A collaborative approach will help all organisations develop and plan better approaches and solutions – WPA are committed to this and are open to sharing our learning with others.
Any public sector organisation can access our Energy Efficiency Measures & Associated Works and Energy Efficiency Consultancy frameworks to retrofit all homes and other buildings including schools, colleges and hospitals.
WPA have also long recognised the future of sustainable construction in MMC, to support the building of homes we have a Offsite Construction of New Homes framework. All other public buildings can also be built using sustainable MMC methods through our Modular Buildings framework.
Whether you are retrofitting your existing buildings or looking to energy efficient buildings and homes, WPA are here to provide value for money procurement solutions and expertise with our appointed companies.
